I was at Big Lots yesterday. As I walk in the store, the manager gets on the PA and says Buzz will be offering 20% off, starting tomorrow. I turn around and say "thank you very much, I'll come back tomorrow." :biggrin:

My local Albertson's is closing, everything 33% off this week, 50% off next week.

I've never been to a BigLots.

Could someone please describe how it compares to other stores--Target, Walmart, Shopko?

Cheaper, for one. Inventory is similar to a Target, but it's very erratic; you never know exactly what they'll have. They have overstock stuff from other retailers, along with sometimes strange items that were test marketed and failed and weren't widely introduced. Also foods that may be getting close to their dates, or (some allege) stuff that sat out too long on pallets or in trucks & exposed to the elements. My store is not all that well organized and generally pretty messy too, so you might have to root around for what you want. I tend to get a lot of canned food, toiletries, and things like tarps there. I can always justify a trip there because I'm an opportunistic shopper and not all that fussy on brands and they have a lot of variety and there are usually several screaming bargains available even w/o the 20% off coupon.

To me, Big Lots is a lot like the old-time Woolworth's. fairly small stores (by today's standards), with a little bit of everything. Merchandise selection is broad, but not too deep. For example, they may have only one color or one size of what you're looking for. It's kind of like an indoor flea market, but with brand-new merchandise of course. Best overall value for the money, IMHO. And you can get in and out of there in 1/10th the time of WallyWorld. But your first time there, don't rush it, give yourself at least an hour to explore the store.

Print an extra coupon & give it away!
 

Folks, if you do go to Big Lots this week, please print off an extra coupon or two, and pass it along to some deserving-looking shopper. I gave my extra copy to an elderly lady because I figured she probably wasn't online and she was looking very hard at the food prices. She was so grateful that I wish I had printed more of them. Costs nothing, and will help someone out a bit.

I stocked up big time there. I got a bunch of canned food & snacks, and even some pricier items like conditioner, laundry detergent, feminine hygiene products, and socks & underwear, but I still paid less than $100 after the coupon. Quite the deal.

So on my way out of the parking lot, I pass through the HomeDepot lot which is just around the corner from BL. I have never seen so many day laborers there or anywhere before. There had to have been at least 20 of them, and they were walking towards my car, trying to flag me down. Made me nervous enough to lock my doors. Starting to get hairy out there.

Our Big Lots has a huge department full of
those clear storage containers that I am obsessed with.
Particularly the tall ones with 4 drawers.
Fantastic for organizing closets.
I'm getting so excited already just thinking about it.

Also they had alot of nice Christmas stuff on clearance last week
for 75 % off and now it's 90% off.
I gots tons of stuff for practically nothing.
(nice gift bags, gift boxes, wrappiing paper, printed tissue papers,
cards, christmas storage boxes, cookie tins & buckets )
Saved hundreds.

I too, buy plastic storage bins at Big Lots. They are also good for cards and picture frames. Also, they sell 5gal water jugs for about $7.

I found a very cool little wind up lantern when I went to big lots yesterday. Its not super sturdy but I have some flashlights made out of the same material and they have held up well. The lantern was 18.00 without the coupon..
